The Shares and Assets Valuations (SAV) section of HMRC deals with enquiries in respect of the valuations of unquoted shares: shares of companies which are not quoted, listed or traded on the stock exchange for taxation purposes. The office also deals with
other valuations including copyrights, goodwill, bloodstock, livestock and underwriting interests.
The most common area dealt by the SAV is the valuation of unquoted shares. Valuations are required in many circumstances including acquisitions, disposals, issue of certain share options and transfers as a gift or upon death.
The SAV guidance has recently been updated. A new example has been added to the section of the guidance dealing with Enterprise Management Incentives concerning partnership shares for Public Service Mutual Healthcare.
The ITEPA Post Transaction Valuation Check (PTVC) / PAYE Health Check valuation service were withdrawn with effect from 31 March 2016. Any requests made for ITEPA PTVC / PAYE health check valuations are no longer processed by HMRC.
