A new 2021 protocol amending the 2015 Sweden-UK Double Tax Convention (DTC) was signed on 12 January 2021 in London. The protocol was signed by Jesse Norman MP for the UK Government and by Torbjörn Sohlström on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden.

The protocol will introduce a number of changes including amendments to the Articles relating to dividends, interest, royalties and mutual agreement procedures. This is intended to eliminate double taxation and prevent fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and on capital gains without creating opportunities for non-taxation or reduced taxation through tax evasion or avoidance.

The protocol will enter into force once both countries have finalised their respective legislative procedures and exchanged diplomatic notes.
