The British Standards Institution (BSI) has published the Menstruation, Menstrual Health and Menopause in the Workplace Standard (BS 30416) to help employers support employees going through menstruation or the menopause. The new standard is designed to assist employers in identifying the misconceptions around menstruation, perimenopause and menopause, and the impact the taboo surrounding them can have on workplace support. 

The standard provides practical recommendations for workplace and role adjustments, and it gives guidance on developing policies and practices that are supportive of the menstrual and peri/menopausal health and experience of employees in the workplace. As annexes to the standard there is also:

• an HR and line manager toolkit 
• a sample internal review checklist
• information on recruitment considerations and ideas to remove barriers
• information on initiatives to facilitate culture change.
