Planners refer to taking out a blue sky day – a time to contemplate ideas for developing your business away from the distractions of phones.
Ironically, the phrase was used in the early 20th century to describe fraud, particularly financiers who would inflate and over-capitalise securities based on nothing more tangible than blue skies and hot air.
The concept is appealing in its more recent application as a means to think outside the box and devise new strategies for taking a business forward.
Zoom or similar could be used to achieve this although it is tempting to wait until we can meet again face to face.
COVID and Brexit are creating once-in-a-lifetime challenges that we would be foolish to ignore.
Perhaps we should all consider this option in the coming months, to set time aside for blue sky thinking, when it is possible to meet and thrash out ideas for the future.
Certainly, there is no room for the 20th century definition.
Blue skies, 2020’s style, may be the place where we can step back from the frenetic activity of the past year and consider our options. The idea is appealing.
