Acas has published new guidance on age discrimination at work. As well as providing an overview of the age discrimination provisions, the guidance covers:
- Key areas where age discrimination may happen, i.e. recruitment, training and promotion, performance management and retirement
- Risks of stereotyping people because of age
- Risks of using ageist language
- When different treatment because of age may be allowed
- Making a claim for age discrimination.
The guidance also includes a more detailed guide book on “age discrimination: key points for the workplace”, plus a “ten obligations for employers” factsheet and a “top ten myths” factsheet.
Finally, there is a video which introduces and explains the Equality Act 2010’s nine protected characteristics, i.e. the areas of life protected against discrimination.
